HVAC Services in Highland Village, TX
Lantern Home Services is a family-owned HVAC company based on Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound, and Highland Village shares a border with Flower Mound along FM 407. We handle AC and heating repair, replacement, and tune-ups from Castlewood and Highland Shores to the streets around Doubletree Ranch Park. In a city this settled, most systems have already been replaced at least once, so we start with what the last replacement left behind.

Highland Village's own comprehensive plan says the city is nearing build-out, and the county's appraisal records show why. Across the 5,265 residential properties with a house on them, the median year built is 1991, and about 58 percent went up in the 1980s and 1990s. Very little is new. That changes what HVAC work looks like here. Most central systems are replaced somewhere around the 15 to 20 year mark, so a house built in 1991 is usually on its second system, sometimes its third. The equipment in the side yard may be recent. What it connects to often is not. A replacement swaps the outdoor unit, the indoor coil, and the furnace or air handler, and it usually leaves the ductwork exactly where the builder ran it.
Those ducts live in the attic, and by now they have been through roughly thirty North Texas summers. Joints pull apart, insulation wraps sag, and a run that got stepped on during the last install can stay crushed for years without anyone noticing. The result is a familiar complaint: a new system, and the same back bedroom that never cools. Before we quote equipment in a Highland Village home, we look at the duct runs and how air actually reaches each room. Sometimes the fix is sealing and reconnecting what is already there. Sometimes it is a properly sized system on corrected ducts. Either way, you hear which one before you buy anything.

Heating Repair in Highland Village Starts With the Gas Side
The City of Highland Village lists two gas utilities for residents, Atmos and CoServ, and in a house with gas heat the furnace in the attic or closet has been sitting idle since spring. A furnace from the original build era has run through roughly thirty winters. That is long enough for a flame sensor to coat over, an igniter to crack, and the heat exchanger itself to wear.
So when the first cold night comes and the heat runs but the air stays cool, or the burners light and then shut off, we start with the parts that age. We clean or test the flame sensor, check the igniter, look at the burners and the heat exchanger, confirm the flue is venting, and check for carbon monoxide. If anything about the heat exchanger or the venting looks wrong, we tell you plainly and do not leave it running.
Not every Highland Village house burns gas. If yours heats with a heat pump, the checks are different: the reversing valve, the defrost cycle that keeps the outdoor coil from icing over, and the backup heat strips that carry the house on the coldest mornings. A heat pump leaning on those strips all winter shows up as a big electric bill, and that is usually something we can find.

Working out whether you need the work at all? These are free, they run in your browser, and none of them ask for your email.
- Should you repair or replace your air conditioner? Compare cost per remaining year, not sticker price. Divide the repair quote by the years the system has left. Divide a replacement by however many years you expect a new one to last. The lower number is the cheaper path on cost alone, before you weigh comfort, efficiency, and the odds of a second failure. You set the service-life number yourself in the calculator.
- What size air conditioner do you actually need? No calculator can size your system, including this one. Sizing requires a Manual J load calculation, the industry method for working out how much heating and cooling a specific house needs, accounting for insulation, windows, orientation, ceiling height, duct losses, and air leakage. Floor area captures none of that. The Air Conditioning Contractors of America, the trade body that publishes the standard, is blunt about it: you cannot use square feet per ton to size an air conditioner, you have to do an actual load calculation.
- Are HVAC maintenance plans worth the money? A plan pays for itself when the included visits plus the discount you will really use come to more than the annual fee. Older equipment, multiple systems, or several trades on one plan clear that bar without much trouble. One newer system that rarely needs a service call usually does not.
